Misprint Announcement

Thank you to all who have purchased The Disparate Ones. If you are on this page, you probably bought a copy with letters missing from several words in it. Here’s the short explanation:

When the final file was saved for publication, it got corrupted causing random letters to disappear from the text. This corruption happened after all the final rounds of proofreading and corrections. The problem was only discovered four days before launch, after an unknown number of books had already been printed. The corrections have been made for all subsequent copies. The e-books were not affected. Because of the way print copies are run for small publishers, there is no way to recall the affected books.

Here’s the longer explanation:

While it might appear the book wasn’t proofread, it was multiple times. Both the digital and print versions were proofread. In fact, the corrupted file resulted from finding the last five typos before releasing The Disparate Ones for pre-sale. When the final, corrected file was converted to the “print quality” PDF/X file, it got corrupted.

I don’t know why the corruption happened, but as soon as it was discovered, an uncorrupted file was submitted to the printer. That file was approved and is now the file used for printing. Mission Press does not know (and cannot find out) when the corrected file will be moved into print production. As a result, we cannot know when the corrected books will be printed.

We do not believe the missing letters affect the reading experience in a substantial way. Nearly every word is immediately recognizable even with one letter missing. However, we have created a PDF with the page numbers, the words missing a letter(s),  and what the correct word is. Click here to open/download the PDF.

Thank you for your patience with this issue. Missional Press apologizes for the misprinted copies.

If you purchased a copy of The Disparate Ones—regardless of the retailer—and have found the “misprint reading experience” too difficult, please contact Missional Press before returning your book. You can contact us here. Please use “I Have a Misprinted Book” in the subject line, and attach photos of any two pages of your book with missing letters. We would love to try and work out an acceptable solution.
